Dear friend of yf,

Our ongoing correspondence with you.

Dear Friend of YF

To Stay Alive /| You Must be Live has never felt more current than now. As we complete Phase 2 of Festival VI, the field notes captured within the three residency sessions this month speak of literal and gestural outcomes that stoke a feeling of unsettledness that can be mistaken for unease and unknowns or can be manifested to become the liveness that is necessary to stay alive - to stay living...

Dear Friend of YF

4114 miles between our furthest points, Seattle to Bogotá. New York. LA. Makes sense, we’ve been circling against the clock, countering binary systems within and without, and what else is a palindrome but a loop? Across time and space, the stories emerge as fragments, living in/within those 5 seconds of a loop...

Dear Friend of YF

Our YFVI artists Amalya, Dylan, and Divyamaan just completed their residency week within Phase 2 of the festival. In tandem with the current state of our times, the artists participated in an ever-evolving experimentation of remote and distant intimacy. They are working in tactile states that require an alertness and honoring of slowness. Emerging themes of duality came bubbling to the surface...

Dear Friend of YF

With the beginning of February, we begin Phase 2: Residency. In lieu of the idealized in-person gathering we had originally dreamt for Festival VI, we have redesigned the phase so the cohort and curators can gather in time and intention while still keeping our distance. Each artist will be provided a space of their own to dig into their inquiries and expand on ....

I started late. Past noon or something like that, and I was aiming for ten. Headed east but my maps app took me the wrong way, ended up having to u-turn in Beacon hill, still in Seattle, dog already crying, trying to open a bottled water between my knees. We traveled southeast for four days. A linear distance of four days. A vertical distance of, rest stops and....

The bed of a patient is quiet. I choose to be asleep, dreaming. In my dream, I see a woman in a dark suit telling me a Cantorian story. There is a dog in the corner of an elevator, very much like the one we are in right now. The dog gives birth, and leaps over a gap onto the other side.....

Phase I has officially set off.  The curators have spoken with each of the artists, and we have begun shaping YFVI around how to best support them and their projects this year.  The cohort has started meeting digitally-- sparking conversations over connections in each others' work, their relationships with the digital world, and brewing ideas for experiments during....

Dear Friend of YF

Isn't time a funny thing?
Free, leisurely, persistent in nature.
These days, it has been bridled by our culture, becoming an ominous, anxiety-inducing presence. Most distressingly, it has been used as a tool to uphold white supremacist ideals in our daily lives-- see the 'research' section below for more on this. When time is so sneakily being weaponized and commodified, it is easy to forget the playfulness of it, its slippery, protean nature.....
